DLARA Adds New Fair Housing Training Requirement
NEW Fair Housing Training Requirement – 2/13/2024
The Bureau of Professional Licensing (BPL) within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) would like to inform you that Public Act 246 of 2023 amended the Michigan Occupational Code to require that all real estate professionals complete one hour of continuing education in each year of the license cycle concerning compliance with local, State or Federal fair housing law. The law will become effective on February 13, 2024, meaning those renewing their license after that date are required to comply with this new law.
Additionally, as of May 2023, NAR voted to begin requiring TWO hours of Fair Housing training to coincide with the Code of Ethics (COE) Cycle beginning in 2025. The current COE ends December 31st, 2024. This means that if you have not yet completed NAR’s free course, or another WMLAR approved COE course, you need to get that done by 12/31/2024 or your membership will be suspended.
The new COE (3HRS) + Fair Housing (2HRS) will be required between January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2027. Stay tuned for further announcements of Fair Housing (and possibly COE) course offerings in 2024 and beyond.

WMLAR will be offering a hybrid offering of Code of Ethics Training and Fair Housing Training on October 17th. (Location to change if registrations exceed capacity.) Log into your Member Portal for additional details.
