A former National Association President once said, “If real estate is your profession, then politics is your business.” How very true! Politics affects everything you do and WMLAR takes its responsibility seriously to protect and promote Private Property Rights and to see that quality candidates are elected to office on the State and National level. From time to time, the Association gets involved in local elections as well.
Right now, there’s a number of issues happening legislatively that will have massive impacts on the real estate industry including eliminating your independent contractor status and short term rental bans. Monies collected for RPAC goes to fight these issues and so many more. If REALTORS® and the real estate industry are not AT the table, then we are ON THE TABLE as in the chopping block. RPAC monies keep us at the table.
The Government Affairs Committee is responsible for educating the membership on the importance of involvement in the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC), the legislative process, what issues and bills are on the table at the state and federal level and working to make sure our local officials and legislators know our stance on issues. This committee also plans the RPAC events for our association, works with the liaisons for Michigan REALTORS®, and interviews candidates running for local offices to find their stance on real estate related issues.
