Grievance & Professional Standards Committees

NAR’s professional standards policies include a defined process of checks and balances to protect members and evaluate potential Code violations. This presentation describes the process.

Grievance Committee

Chairpersons: Loraine Griffin, Gary Langlois, Tony Nanna

Professional Standards Administrator: Lori Santellan

REALTORS® ONLY- The Grievance Committee is responsible for investigating and making preliminary evaluations of ethics complaints and arbitration requests to determine if a hearing by a Professional Standards tribunal is warranted. The committee operates under procedures set forth in the Code of Ethics and Arbitration Manual of the National Association of REALTORS®. “Committee members should be mature, experienced, knowledgeable persons of a judicial temperament.” *You must be a REALTOR® at least 2 years to serve on this committee. Does require advanced and specialized training.

Professional Standards Committee

Chairpersons: David Ten Cate, Frank Cobb, Drew Deters

Professional Standards Administrator: Lori Santellan

REALTORS® ONLY- The Professional Standards Committee operates under the procedures set forth in the Code of Ethics and Arbitration Manual of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (as amended to conform to Michigan law by legal counsel of the Michigan REALTORS®).

This “Committee” is charged with enforcement of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics and hearing Arbitration requests through professional standards hearings. It is charged to hear ethics complaints referred to the committee by the Grievance Committee and afford due process in all proceedings. “Committee members should be mature, knowledgeable persons of a judicial temperament.” *You must have first served on the Grievance Committee. Does require advanced and specialized training.

How File a Formal Code of Ethics Complaint

If you decide to move forward with your formal Code of Ethics complaint, please download and print the WMLAR Ethics Complaint Form (listed below in blue). After completing the form in its entirety, please email it and any supporting materials to Lori Santellan, Professional Standards Administrator.
