Ottawa, Muskegon counties show increases in pending home sales
GRAND HAVEN, Mich., Feb. 19, 2025 – Pending home sales in Ottawa and Muskegon counties saw annual increases in January, while Allegan County showed a decrease, according to data from the West Michigan Lakeshore Association of REALTORS®.
The association’s pending sales report, which represents residential transactions expected to close after Jan. 31, 2025, serves as an important indicator of overall market health and buyer confidence. While not every transaction listed as pending will ultimately result in a sale in February, 2025, the data is a forward-looking indicator of the market’s future prospects.
“The data suggest that there could be a strong start to the warmer weather selling season,” said Jon Broadbooks, CEO of the West Michigan Lakeshore Association of REALTORS®. “Interest rates have remained relatively steady, which may be giving buyers more confidence in making significant financial decisions like purchasing a home.”
County Breakdown:
• Allegan County: 64 pending sales in January, down 16.9% from January 2024 (77 pending sales). • Ottawa County: 197 pending sales in January, up 4.2% from January 2024 (189 pending sales). • Muskegon County: 155 pending sales in January, increasing 12.3% from January 2024 (138 pending sales).
The increase in pending sales in Ottawa and Muskegon counties comes amid a decline in available homes for sale across the three-county region. As of Feb. 19, there were 870 homes on the market, a 5.3% decrease from 916 at the same time last year, according to the association’s database.
“With fewer homes to choose from, buyers may feel increased pressure to act quickly before another offer comes in,” Broadbooks said.
