Why All REALTORS® Should Support RPAC: Protecting Local Real Estate and Property Rights For All

Written by Dean Kreps, WMLAR Government Affairs Chairperson, Aug. 15, 2024
In Michigan, the REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC) plays a crucial role in safeguarding our local real estate market and protecting property owners. But what exactly does RPAC do, and why is it vital for REALTORS® in Michigan to invest in it? Here’s why RPAC matters and how your support makes a difference.
What is RPAC?
The REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC) is the advocacy arm of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and focuses on influencing local, state, and national policies that affect the real estate industry. RPAC works to support legislation and candidates that align with REALTOR® values, ensuring that our interests are represented in decision-making processes.
How RPAC Supports Michigan’s Real Estate Industry
RPAC’s work is particularly relevant to Michigan REALTORS® in several key ways:
- Advocating for Local Legislation: RPAC actively engages with Michigan lawmakers to shape policies that impact the state’s real estate market. This includes addressing issues such as property tax reform, zoning regulations, and housing affordability—critical concerns for Michigan’s real estate community.
- Protecting Property Rights: In Michigan, RPAC fights to protect property rights against restrictive local ordinances and potential overregulation. By advocating for fair and balanced policies, RPAC helps ensure that property owners and REALTORS® can operate without undue constraints.
- Supporting Pro-REALTOR® Candidates: RPAC invests in the campaigns of Michigan legislators, including local WMLAR REALTORS®, who support REALTOR® interests. By backing candidates who understand the challenges and opportunities in our local market, RPAC helps elect leaders who will advocate for favorable policies and regulations.
Why Invest in RPAC
Investing in RPAC is more than just a donation—it’s a strategic move to safeguard the future of the real estate profession in Michigan. Here’s why your investment is crucial:
